Back to the regular routine after an awesome week off.  Enjoyed the R & R but was itching to get back to things.

I stopped and paused a minute at around the 10 mile mark because I knew that was when I crossed over the 1000 mile for the year point. It was a beautiful day, warm enough to run in a tank and shorts and I looked around to see where 1000 miles had gotten me.

Not far actually, since I was about 5 miles away from home. But that’s just the physical location.

I look back at this year - my father’s heart attack and recovery, finalizing a divorce, working and being a mom full-time, mono… it wasn’t an “easy” year by any stretch of the imagination. But running got me through it all, all of the things that went wrong, were tough and challenged me became my reason to run. It helped me center and find myself when everything around me seemed to conspire to knock me around and keep me off balance.

Maybe it is a little bit of serendipity that it is a year from the day that I decided to make the commitment to really train for a half marathon.  That was all that I was planning on doing, but over the year I learned to not say “never” because since then I’ve done a lot of things that I said I’d never do - and thinking about a few others ;)  I learned what wonderful friends and family I have as they supported and cheered me on along the way. I learned that I was capable of a whole lot more than even I could imagine.

A nice Christmas morning run :)

Feels kind of crazy to say that it was hot and humid especially after talking to my friends and family up north who have been blasted by winter.  There is no easy way to tell someone you spent the day at the beach when they just explained how they had to shovel their driveway three times in one day.

What a great morning for a run - the temperature was pretty much perfect for the entire race. The plan was to just enjoy myself and work on holding a steady pace - if I could hit 2 hours or go under I’d be really happy.

The first half went great, was running with someone I knew and we were laughing and having fun. Was just under an hour at the half way point and was feeling really good so I decided to start picking up the pace for the second half - it was kind of crazy because each mile kept getting faster and I ended up running the second half about 5 minutes faster than the first and my last mile being the fastest.

The fun part about today is this is actually the race that started me running last year - I ended up injuring myself and never did run it (or do any running for a little while) - but it did make me really think about what I wanted to accomplish and how I could do it. So now I have 2 halfs under my belt and getting ready for my first full marathon in 3 months… wow.

I’m really happy with what I’ve been able to accomplish in the year since I started running and so excited to be looking toward the new year and setting new goals!
